The bats in the sky and I
silent observation in the night

A dusted blue indigo sunset
A bat in the sky and I.
First hefty spring bug
Rises from the grass-
Slowly, drowsily.
Bouncing in the balmy air.
The wind-combed winter grass
Became the blonde straw.
Two bats in the sky and I.
The sinking Sun paints "Goodbye"
With a scattered stroke of a cloud.
Three bats in the sky and I.
Two circling each other.
A dragonfly, so close to my face-
Will the bats see it?
Four ducks carry their song South.
A paintbrush,
Dipped into the velvety darkness
Of the forthcoming night,
Spilled four inky drops
Onto the young canvass of the spring sky.
Four bats in the sky and I.

Writing - is my purpose. I feel elated when my thoughts assume shapes, and turn into Timberwolves, running through the snowbound planes of fresh paper, leaving the black ink of their paw prints behind.
