Last summer, an elder I became...

New revelations were promptly downloaded to my brain...

I can now see past the trees to the forest...

I am perpetually-blinded by the beauty on the horizon...

Far from the broad path and no longer lurking in the shadows...

High upon the mountaintop, looking down...

The Lord gently carrying me in HIS welcoming arms...

For that, I am forever grateful and perpetually calm...

HIS love and protection, my soul's balm...

Author's Note: Last summer I turned the Big 50 and officially became an elder, y'all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 💪🏾🎉🩷🌸

There are so many privileges of being an elder, like:

  • 50 Years of Wisdom
  • 50 Years of Knowledge
  • 50 Years of Success
  • 50 Years of Triumph
  • 50 Years of Growth
  • 50 Years of Determination

&

  • 50 Years of God's Protection

**Contrary to popular belief, I believe that the decade of the 50s is still primetime. I've even heard the decades of the 50s be called the teenagehood of old people! I guess that the decade of the 50s is seen that way because most of us still have our independence and rebellious spunk, but our bodies are reminding us that it's becoming more difficult to do that cartwheel or long jump that we could do perfectly at 8! Lol 🤣

Let us all celebrate where our age falls.

We are ALL here for a special reason!

Happy Weekend, Friends! 😚🤸🏾🤸🏾🤸🏾🤸🏾🧑🏾‍🦱👈🏾They have a new fro emoji now, how cute! Lol :)))

Much love,

Tiffa Go🌸

Elder, what...50 is the new 18...it's 60 and beyond you have to worry about it would seem. Crap starts hitting the fan from what I can see. Better start getting ready...earlier the better.

I didn’t know about the afro emoji!!! Apple rolls out the craziest things at this point. 50? More like 50, flirty, and thriving (in reference to the movie 13 going on 30). What a wonderful piece!

  • That is great…!!! Congratulations on becoming an elder!

Tiff Tiff Tiff … I loved all about you feeling wise and knowledgable and everything else, but I refuse to call you elder. 😁 Don’t get mad at me. I don’t associate you with a number but with the smiles that you put on my face. 🫖☕️🍰 Tea and cake is what is in order. 🤗🌷🌸

  • I never could do a perfect (or even a good) cartwheel or long jump. But I became an elder long before 50. Elder is what we call fully ordained clergy in The United Methodist Church which is what happened back in my mid-twenties. That following Sunday morning I just couldn't wait to tell my two congregations, "No matter how young you think I am, I am now officially your elder."

I just loved this Tiffany. I would love to have my fifties back. However, each is a stage of life. I barely noticed how my fifties were making me an elder. Beautifully written and although I am 25 years past that, I was celebrating with you. Such an uplifting poem and so nicely done. I enjoyed this - it made me smile. Nicely Done Tiffany.

I'd love to have my 50s back--welcome to Elderhood! I agree that the 50s are sort of like being a teenager all over again, albeit with less flexibility and brittler bones. LOL Have you discovered reading glasses yet?

Slay it girl!! Love the inspiration! There is still soo much to come ahead! 💘🌟💝

  • Some good points. My account still won't let me post, but I can hopefully get on the Leaderboard with my piece about it. I have set up a half-month challenge because I believe (misguidedly) that Vocal will get this sorted.

  • Your story resonated with me. I was 50 in the year 2000. A friend told me I needed AARP card now. I remember asking her, "What?" Then I remembered I was 50. Your story rocks!

    Go girl!!! Rocking inspirational poem!💕❤️❤️

I like this idea of celebrating the age and what comes with it. Too many of us (including myself) are dreaming, wishing of being elsewhere and that is not a healthy way to live. Hope you are going alright. Keep the enthusiasm for those goals, Tiff! 😊

Beautifully said! Your words radiate wisdom, gratitude, and joy. Turning 50 truly is a powerful milestone—full of insight, strength, and divine purpose. Here's to the continued journey, full of grace, growth, and God's guiding light. I have seven years on you. Heck, I am counting down the days until I can start drawing my Social Security.
