Hear Nothing Evil Say Nothing Bad

Live and let live, never a gossip monger be

Hear Nothing Evil Say Nothing Bad

Hear nothing evil say nothing bad.

Sit between happy knowledge not bad.

You chose what you want to see and learn,

grow a good crop and you’ll get no karmic return

I close the gate upon my ears,

let lesser whispers disappear.

Not every sound deserves my fears,

not every voice belongs in here.

My mouth is not a loaded gun,

it will not fire at anyone.

Words once loosed cannot be undone,

they scorch long after they have run.

I will not trade in bitter speech,

nor sling sharp syllables to reach

some hollow height that hate can teach,

some shallow crowd I cannot preach.

Silence can be fierce and wise,

a shield before the tongue replies.

Restraint is strength in calm disguise,

a steady heart behind the eyes.

Hear nothing evil say nothing bad.

Let quiet make the chaos sad.

For peace is something I have had,

and I will guard it, iron clad.

Words once loosed cannot be undone, they scorch long after they have run. Very true. I do not believe in that old line - "sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me." Not true. They hurt and can never be mended.
