Afternoon Stream

Water ripples over smooth, mossed stones,

Sunlight falling gold across its path.

Green leaves lean low to touch the surface,

While flowers bloom along the banks.

The current hums its patient song,

Moving secrets from root to root.

A dragonfly dips and darts above the water,

Silver wings catching the scattered light.

The forest hums with patient life,

Every shadow and ray in balance.

I follow the stream with careful steps,

Listening to leaves brush against themselves.

The air is rich with distant blooms,

Scent rising warm from hidden petals.

A heron stands in silent vigil,

Watching the flow as though it speaks.

Small fish flash beneath the clear water,

Eddies folding light into gentle circles.

The stream winds past alder and willow,

Carrying time and memory along its path.

I pause where moss softens the edge,

And hear the whispers of unseen journeys.

Here, in this flowing quiet place,

The world feels wide, yet intimately known.
